ITU-R SG5 WP5D Meeting in Japan for International Standardization of Next-generation Mobile Communication Systems

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has invited Japan to the 49th session of SG5 WP5D, a working group of the International Telecommunication Union, Radio Communication Division (ITU-R), which is in charge of international standardization and frequency studies for next-generation mobile communication systems. The meeting will be held from Tuesday, June 24, 2025 to Thursday, July 3, 2025 in Kobe City, Japan.

1 Outline

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has released "Strategy for Realization of Next-generation Information and Telecommunications Infrastructure Supporting AI Society - Beyond 5G Promotion Strategy 2.0 -" (August 30, 2024) and is promoting various policies toward the realization of the next-generation information and telecommunications infrastructure, Beyond 5G.
The next-generation mobile communication system (6G), which is a more advanced version of 5G, is being studied at the SG5 WP5D meeting (Chairman: Hiroyuki Shin, General Manager of Radio Standardization Promotion Department of NTT DOCOMO), a working group of the International Telecommunication Union Radio Communication Division (ITU-R), regarding technical specifications and frequency for international standardization in around 2030. The activities are expected to be in full swing in the near future.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has invited the ITU-R SG5 WP5D Meeting (49th Session) to Japan and will hold the meeting in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, from June 24 (Tuesday) to July 3 (Thursday), 2025, in order to contribute to the study and formulation of standardization activities toward 6G and to enhance Japan's presence.

Dates: Tuesday, June 24, 2025 - Thursday, July 3, 2025 (8 days)
Place (Venue): Kobe Fashion Mart (Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture)
Attendees: Telecom competent authorities, companies, organizations, etc. from each ITU member country
Note: Of the above dates, a technical exhibition by Japanese officials will also be held from June 24 (Tuesday) to June 26 (Thursday), 2025 (3 days).
